About Me
Leonardo Véliz is a versatile music producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. His passion lies in creating unique tracks across diverse genres. For over 5 years, Leonardo has been intensely involved in music production. He masters various software and techniques across a wide spectrum of genres and has successfully collaborated with artists such as Nelita to realize their artistic visions through his sound design and production. Most recently, he has started two new projects with artist Emily LadyStar, and composed the film score for the short film Kite.
A defining element of his work is his love for organic, recorded sounds — from a sampled coffee cup to self-sung choirs, a chewing gum box as a shaker, or whatever he can get his hands on. This approach gives his productions a distinctly organic texture and creative sound design that sets them apart. His versatility and production style have already earned praise from producers such as Thilo Berg.
What makes Leonardo's productions particularly personal is that he records live instruments himself — drums, trumpet, piano, and most recently bass guitar — lending each track an organic, emotional quality that goes beyond the purely digital.
His musical journey began early: twelve years of drum studies and over eleven years of trumpet lessons at the conservatory, each concluded with top marks in his annual examinations, built him a solid technical foundation. Leonardo has also been playing the piano for five years, and is currently expanding his skills further by learning bass guitar.
He has successfully participated twice in Jugend komponiert BW, a competitive composition workshop in Baden-WĂĽrttemberg. Leonardo also teaches at a local music school and continuously broadens his musical horizon by attending workshops with renowned musicians, ensuring his skills and perspectives keep evolving.
Leonardo plays live music in venues like Jazzclub Karlsruhe and with various bands, switching between keys, drums, and trumpet across Rock, Pop, Jazz, and Funk projects. He also co-founded the "Véliz-Quintett", a formation of young jazz musicians from Karlsruhe, which performed at events like the HKA and the "Das Fest" pre-festival.
A special recognition was the spontaneous invitation from renowned saxophonist Peter Lehel to join the Big Band of the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe as a trumpeter — an experience that extended into two further semesters, with performances both at the Hochschule and at various other locations, including frequent opportunities to take the solo. Most recently, Leonardo has begun performing his own compositions at jam sessions, bringing his producer's perspective directly to the stage.
